January 2027

Gmail is ending mail fetching from other accounts. What next?

Google announced on Gmail help pages that in January 2027 it will switch off three features that let Gmail work as one inbox for everything. Existing settings keep working until then, and Google is already restricting new ones.

Gmail ends POP3 fetching and “Send mail as”: what to do
  • Fetching mail from other accounts (POP3)

Gmail will stop fetching messages from your work domain and other providers.

  • “Send mail as” for third-party addresses

Neither on the web nor in the Gmail app will you be able to send mail from another provider’s address through your Gmail account.

  • Gmailify

Other providers’ mailboxes lose Gmail spam filtering and categories.

One panel for all your mail

multiboxi connects to each mailbox the way a mail program does, over IMAP and SMTP. It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.

Add a mailbox in a minute

Server settings fill in automatically for Gmail, Onet, WP and DreamHost. The wizard checks the connection straight away.

Every mailbox has its own colour

You choose the name, colour and order of your mailboxes. You see at a glance which mailbox has unread mail.

Two-factor authentication, always on

You sign in with a password and a code from an authenticator app. Backup codes help if you lose your phone.

Replies from the address the message was sent to

Reply from the right address without setting up “Send mail as”. Drafts and sent messages stay with your provider, so your phone sees the same.

How to switch to multiboxi

  1. Join the waitlist

We will send one email when registration opens.

  2. Prepare app passwords

Gmail requires them, Onet does with two-step verification. Our guides show where to create them.

  3. Add your mailboxes in the wizard

Settings for Gmail, Onet, WP and DreamHost fill in automatically. Any other IMAP mailbox can be added by hand.

multiboxi compared with other options

Google points to your provider’s website or app, a mail program on your computer and the Gmail app on your phone; forwarding is another route. multiboxi is shown alongside.

  • Forwarding is set up with your other provider. Messages arrive in Gmail, but you can reply only from your Gmail address. Forwarded mail may land in spam, for example when the sender’s domain has a strict DMARC policy.
  • The Gmail app shows each mailbox as a separate account, but only in the app on a phone or tablet.
  • A mail program (such as Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail) handles all accounts, but you set it up separately on each computer.
  • multiboxi works in the browser on any computer and phone, and your mail stays with your providers. It is in testing: see what already works.

How we protect access to your mailboxes

Every tool that handles many mailboxes needs access to them. So we tell you exactly how we protect it.

  • App passwords

Where your provider offers them, you connect a mailbox with a separate app password that you can revoke at any time.

  • AES-256 encryption

Mailbox passwords are encrypted with your account’s key. The master key is not kept in the database.

  • Two-factor authentication

Mandatory for every account. Plus an email when someone signs in from a new device, and sign-out everywhere.

  • Content stays with your provider

multiboxi fetches a message when you open it and does not store its content or attachments.

  • Images blocked

Images from the web load only when you choose, so senders cannot use them to tell that you opened their message.

  • EU servers

OVHcloud in the European Union. Backups in a second data centre, protected against deletion for 30 days.

All questions
Is Gmail really going to stop fetching mail from other accounts?

Yes. According to Gmail Help, January 2027 brings the end of POP3 fetching from other accounts (“Check mail from other accounts”), “Send mail as” for third-party addresses, and Gmailify. If you already use these features, they keep working until January 2027, and Google is already restricting new setups. Everything about the changes.

What changes in “Send mail as”?

From January 2027 Gmail will no longer send mail from another provider’s address (such as your company domain) through your account, neither on the web nor in the mobile apps. “Send mail as” keeps working for Google-hosted addresses: other Gmail addresses and Google Workspace aliases. You can still add a third-party mailbox to the Gmail app on your phone as a separate account (IMAP) and send from it.

Do I have to give up Gmail?

No. You add Gmail to multiboxi like any other mailbox and see it next to the others. Your address, messages and labels stay in Gmail.

Where is my mail? Do you move it to your servers?

It stays with your providers. multiboxi connects to your mailboxes live and does not store message content or attachments. That is why your phone and other apps see exactly the same thing.

Does multiboxi know my mail password?

multiboxi stores the password you connect a mailbox with: ideally an app password, not your main mail password. It is encrypted (AES-256) with your account’s key. This is not end-to-end encryption, because the server has to decrypt it to connect to your mailbox. You can revoke an app password with your provider at any time.

When can I start?

The first version is ready and in testing. We will open it to the first people from the waitlist. Join the waitlist and we will email you when registration opens.
