Gmail changes

Is Gmail really going to stop fetching mail from other accounts?

Yes. According to Gmail Help, January 2027 brings the end of POP3 fetching from other accounts (“Check mail from other accounts”), “Send mail as” for third-party addresses, and Gmailify. If you already use these features, they keep working until January 2027, and Google is already restricting new setups. Everything about the changes.

What changes in “Send mail as”?

From January 2027 Gmail will no longer send mail from another provider’s address (such as your company domain) through your account, neither on the web nor in the mobile apps. “Send mail as” keeps working for Google-hosted addresses: other Gmail addresses and Google Workspace aliases. You can still add a third-party mailbox to the Gmail app on your phone as a separate account (IMAP) and send from it.

What about the Gmail app on my phone?

In the Gmail app for Android, iPhone and iPad you can still add other mailboxes over IMAP, as separate accounts. “Send mail as” goes away there too. This works only in the app on a phone or tablet; on a computer you need something else.

I collect mail from another provider in Gmail. What should I do?

Until January 2027 you do not need to change anything. After that Gmail stops fetching this mail. You can set up forwarding with your other provider (you will then reply from your Gmail address), add the mailbox to the Gmail app on your phone, or bring all your mailboxes together in multiboxi. Compare the options.

Gmail fetched my mail and deleted it from the server. What happens to those messages?

If your POP settings did not keep a copy on the server, the fetched messages now exist only in Gmail. They will stay there: Google says messages already imported will not disappear. In multiboxi you will see them in your Gmail mailbox.

Will I lose the messages Gmail has already fetched?

No. According to Google, previously imported messages stay in your Gmail mailbox. Only new mail will no longer be fetched.

How multiboxi works

Do I have to give up Gmail?

No. You add Gmail to multiboxi like any other mailbox and see it next to the others. Your address, messages and labels stay in Gmail.

Where is my mail? Do you move it to your servers?

It stays with your providers. multiboxi connects to your mailboxes live and does not store message content or attachments. That is why your phone and other apps see exactly the same thing.

Which mailboxes can I add?

Any mailbox that allows IMAP and SMTP access with a password, often an app password. Gmail, Onet, WP and DreamHost have ready-made settings; Interia, o2, mailboxes on your own domain and others can be added by hand. See the guides.

Does multiboxi work on a phone?

Yes, in your phone’s browser: the screens adapt to its size. There is no separate app.

Can I add Outlook.com or Hotmail?

Not yet. Microsoft requires Microsoft account authorisation (OAuth) for these mailboxes. We will add them together with the same authorisation for Google.

Security and data

Does multiboxi know my mail password?

multiboxi stores the password you connect a mailbox with: ideally an app password, not your main mail password. It is encrypted (AES-256) with your account’s key. This is not end-to-end encryption, because the server has to decrypt it to connect to your mailbox. You can revoke an app password with your provider at any time.

Google warns about third-party tools. Why should I trust multiboxi?

The warning is fair: every such tool needs access to your mailbox. That is why multiboxi connects with app passwords where your provider offers them (you can revoke them at any time), stores passwords encrypted, requires two-factor authentication, does not store message content and runs on servers in the EU. Details.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, in settings. We delete the account, settings and encrypted passwords; they disappear from backups within about 32 days. Only data we must keep stays longer, such as proof that you accepted the Terms, without mailbox addresses or content. Mail with your providers is not touched.

Who is behind multiboxi?

multiboxi is made by GND3D from Balice near Kraków, Poland. multiboxi is not affiliated with Google.

Pricing and launch

When can I start?

The first version is ready and in testing. We will open it to the first people from the waitlist. Join the waitlist and we will email you when registration opens.

How much will multiboxi cost?

Nothing during testing. After public launch we plan: Start for €0 (up to 2 mailboxes), Plus for €2.49 a month (up to 10) and Pro for €4.99 a month (up to 25). Prices may still change. You pay for the number of mailboxes, because each one is a constant connection to your provider’s server.

Will I pay anything during testing?

No. Testing is free, and paid plans start only after public launch. You choose them yourself.

How will I pay?

We plan to accept cards and fast online bank transfers, monthly or yearly. We will name the payment provider before launch. Businesses will receive a VAT invoice.
